About Us

The Columbia Social Work Review (formerly the Journal of Student Social Work) is an annual peer-reviewed journal for students in the field of social work to share their research, experiences and views with faculty, fellow students, and the wider scholarly community. The Review strives to enrich the scholarly nature of our school by providing a forum for the exchange of innovative ideas from the perspective of social work students, and giving students the opportunity to be published in an academic journal as master’s students.

The mission of the Columbia Social Work Review is to provide a forum for the exchange of innovative ideas that integrate social work practice, education, research, and theory from the perspective of social work students. Founded by students at Columbia University School of Social Work in 2003 as the Columbia University Journal of Student Social Work, this academic journal provides an opportunity for students in the field of social work to share their unique experiences and perspectives with fellow students, faculty, and the larger social work community.

Open Access PolicyCSWR is an open access journal, which means that all content is freely available without charge to the user or his/her institution. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles in this journal without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author. Authors retain their copyright and agree to license their articles with a Creative Commons “Attribution” license. Prior to 2015, all articles were published with a Creative Commons “Attribution, Non-Commercial” license. The Review is currently seeking scholarly papers that apply critical analysis to current topics in the field of social work for its next volume. Details about the submissions process will be posted soon.
